ASUS should buy these by the truckload and include them with these routers. This thing works great my temps we're up to 78-82C all the time. After install and only running the fan barely audible they have dropped to 58C!!. A 20C drop is amazing, will extend the life of the router no doubt. Great product, one of the few that does exactly what it says it will do. Would advise anyone with a gt-ac 2900 to buy this. Can't speek for the other versions but I'm willing to bet they are just as good. I did remove the filter I didn't really see the point it would just restrict airflow. There's not enough dust buildup to use it. If it gets dusty just blow it out.
I got this as a cart filler and it does exactly what it says on the tin, 95% of users would never need this type of cooling as these router chips will happily run until 120c. My Ac88u went from around 80c to 59-63c with the fan silent, ax88u 50-54c, however it can get very loud nearing max but you should never have the need for it.One thing I wish, it exhausted air out inside of sucking in as that causes more dust. Need to run a brush across the top every week or two. I suppose I'll fiddle with it and flip the fan when I'm bored.
It does what is supposed to do: Cool down the router. Mine operates now at about 60F C and it was about 80F before installing it.It can be a bit loud: You can increase/decrease the speed of the fans. In my case, I decreased the speed until I could barely hear it. The temp of the router stayed at 60F.My router was crashing so I bought this. In the end I don't know if it was the fan or a firmware update but my router no longer freezes.
Unit fits perfectly, but unfortunately it does basically nothing to cool the router. A small usb/battery fan utilized to PULL the air through the unit out the top worked better.
